What is an IBAN?

The International Bank Account Number (IBAN) is an internationally agreed system of identifying bank accounts across national borders to facilitate cross-border transactions.

IBAN Structure

It consists of a two-letter country code, two check digits, and up to 30 alphanumeric characters for the Basic Bank Account Number (BBAN).

Modulo 97

IBANs use the Modulo 97 algorithm (ISO 7064) to calculate check digits. This helps catch typing errors before payments are processed.
