IMO Number Validator & Generator
Validate International Maritime Organization (IMO) ship identification numbers using the official checksum algorithm. Generate valid IMO numbers for maritime software testing.
IMO Validator
How it works
An IMO number consists of the three letters "IMO" followed by a seven-digit number. The first six digits are unique to the ship, and the seventh is a check digit.
The check digit is calculated by multiplying each of the first six digits by their position (7 down to 2) and summing them. The last digit of this sum must equal the check digit.

Disclaimer: Generated numbers are mathematically valid for testing purposes but may not represent actual vessels in service.
What is an IMO?
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) number is a unique identifier for ships, registered ship owners, and management companies. It was introduced to improve maritime safety and security and to reduce maritime fraud.
Permanence
Unlike ship names or flags, the IMO number remains unchanged throughout a vessel's life, from construction until its final disposal, regardless of changes in ownership or name.
Applicability
The IMO Ship Identification Number Scheme is mandatory for all cargo ships of 300 gross tonnage and above and all passenger ships of 100 gross tonnage and above.
